..my Hufflepuff bookmark is keeping my place in Heinlein's I Will Fear No Evil. I think it has a thing about genderbending characters.

Ganked from [info]majorenglishesq, this is the Fandom as Boyfriend meme. To make it interesting (and more accurate to my preferences these days) however, I'm going to make mine "Fandom as Girlfriend."

The Askewniverse is my childhood sweetheart, the one who held my hand and gave me my first kiss. We went through our first traumas and joys together and I might not have survived either without her. She is the one person I have fond memories of and can always rely on and trust.

X-Files was the older family friend I had a crush on when puberty first hit. No conceivable hope of me ever truly attaining this person but it never stopped me from dreaming or trying to reach out to her in my own naive, innocent way. I admired her, tried to relate to and even be like her, parrotting things she'd said and mimicking her style of dress until it drove everyone around me crazy (save Her, of course, who failed to notice). I listened to the music she liked and watched movies and television shows she'd told my parents about over coffee. Later, I grew disenchanted with her when she had an affair with one of my father's friends and subsequently had a major falling out with both of my parents. I haven't seen her since and really don't care to.

Star Wars was my spiritual mentor, the gorgeous guru who taught me how to control my breathing during meditation and encouraged me to sit still during zazen by sitting on the mat facing me, wearing soft-cotton yoga pants and a thin t-shirt that caused her nipples to peak when the air conditioner kicked on. I always had a hero worship of her that extended to the physical and made me feel ashamed as well as enlightened. I shivered every time she deigned to touch me and prayed she didn't notice.

The Young Ones is my Lady Love. My gorgeous, volatile obsession who says she loves me back, but seems to run from any sort of sentimentality I try to bestow on her and our relationship. She's a caustic wit with a brilliant mind and a body she seems to regard as innately imperfect. I'm never sure which she's more insecure about or how to reassure her that I can't get enough of either. She's someone who demands my full attention and that makes the relationship a difficult one. At the moment, we're on a brief hiatus -- things were a bit hairy there after the time-consuming "Wings" -- but she's never far from my thoughts.

Harry Potter is someone I have fooled around with a LOT over the years, though I wouldn't committ so much as to call her a long-time shag. We're not so into each other that we could ever be lovers or long-term partners, but we also have a hard time leaving each other alone. She's someone who never fails to surprise me with some new and exciting trick or technique, accumulated from her various experiences with other girls and boys on her various travels. I'm always excited to see her name show up on my cellphone -- it means she's back in town and I'm in for a night of fun sometime soon.

OZ, by contrast, was a passing fancy who had some interesting tricks, but nothing that could hold my attention for very long. She was very, very good at what she did and, sadly, little else. She was also a bit manic-depressive, which didn't help matters.

Ditto for Twin Peaks. And Ghost World. And Starsky and Hutch.

Rik and Ade were the older lesbian couple I followed around in high school. The brilliant, flirtatious pair that used to take me out on dates with them and offer to do stuff in front of me. ("How else are you going to learn?") I was never brave enough to say yes but I went home after each "date" imagining the stuff they did in the car on the way home, up in one of their bedrooms, at school when no one else was around. I still do, even though they've since "broken up."

Star Trek is my "Pictures of Lily." She's the Bettie Page pin-up queen my father kept tacked up in his study for years and years and years. As much a part of my childhood as anything else and a sometimes uncomfortable reminder of just how like my father I really am. I've outgrown her several times over the years, but I return to her from time to time -- finding a new photo of her in a new outfit, with a new expression or hairstyle that just *gets to me* and then I have to excuse myself to the privacy of my bed or bathroom for an hour or so.

.. ein anderer Deutsche Tagebuch.

So, ein bisschen aufs Geratewohl.. Ich habe "Deathly Hallows" dreimal seit 21 July gelesen. Und ich bin immer noch zutiefst betrübt! Für Severus am meisten. Und Fred. Und Hedwig. Entschuldigung!

Sehr aufregend! [info]brknmachine, kannst du "hang out" am Sonntag? Oder Samstag nacht?

How I spent my entire weekend..

Heartbroken by a damn book.

"hers is the song
you cannot get
from your head."

"what is the cost of freedom?
and how is it paid?"

"i cannot make
your past disappear

only rabbits, my love
only love."

"a love supreme
summoned from dreams
fuses now
with the hereafter
as spirit to flesh
is melded by the sun."

-- Excerpts from "'Said the Shotgun to the Head" by Saul Williams

Justin! Wie war das?

..My official non-spoiler "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" squee starting now:

The lovely neighbour, Nymphadora's hair (and the *beautiful* actress attached to it), the feline-masticated Extended Ear, Loony Luna Lovegood's barefoot skipping, Margaret Thatcher in pink, the beautiful high ceilings and faded walls at Grimmauld Place, gorgeous Gary Oldman in his long fur coat (and nothing else), RICKMAN. In every scene. Which, in this movie, means *four* (five if you count the eavesdropping scene where just his voice is heard).

Oh, the runes tattooed on Sirius' neck? The first two are Perthro and Algiz. The second is associated with protection, the need to shelter one's self and others. The first indicates a knowledge of one's destiny and future matters.

It also has associations with fertility, feminine mysteries and the vagina.

For the record..
