Since my last entry was a bit abrupt, I just wanted to say Monday wasn't a complete waste this week. I was on my way to meet
wintermexican when I got the call from Longview and he managed to keep it from being the worst day ever.
We got some snacks at Schnuck's, went over to his house and watched Dr. Strangelove and Kondom des Grauens -- a film he'd borrowed from
johnnyskull who'd described it as "kind of a gay Casablanca" which is actually pretty true! If Casablanca had killer condoms produced by a conspiracy of ultra-right wing Catholics bent on disposing the world of sexual deviants. Troma Films distributed it. Imagine that! :P
Later Chris actually came over and made the most *amazing* spaghetti dinner I've had in ages. He made the sauce from scratch; it was a recipe that belonged to his cooking teacher's mother. Afterwards we watched Puni Puni Poemy -- the most random, fucked-up and amazing anime I have ever seen -- and Lola Rennt. And later Eddie drove me back to my car in the middle of a terrential downpour at 2:30 in the morning. It was a good night -- a *good* German/fucked-up movie and Italian food fest that made me forget I still don't have full-time work for another day. Bravo!
Since then, I've had to call up various family members and friends who knew I was going to be hearing from the paper on Monday and tell them I didn't get the job. Not fun.
Tonight was my Erica and MOTY's turn. For them, I sort of buttressed it with the fact that chapter 2 of my book is almost finished. MOTY actually asked if the narrative had been giving me a lot of trouble since I've taken so long to write it. I told her the chapter opens with a sex scene that I was trying to keep in a certain voice (funny, a little bit dark, not pornographic). She laughed and said "I can't wait to read it!"
My mother wants to read a sex scene I wrote. *head explodes* Of course, I didn't tell her it was a *gay* sex scene. Erica does know that and it's almost old hat for her. O_O Less than two years after I came out to her, my 21-year-old sister is not suprised I'm writing a book with gay characters and gay sex in it. How fabulous.
Since I'm not going to be spending my next three weeks packing up my belongings, I've decided to take a weekend road trip down to Fayetteville.
lagaiem,
takentogether,
visible_soul, is there a particular weekend that would be a good time to visit all of you?
